Conrad Faugstad, 88, Lake Mills

Conrad O. Faugstad, 88, of Lake Mills, died on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, from complications from a stroke at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Scarville Synod Lutheran Church in Scarville, Iowa, with the Rev. Thomas Rank officiating.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday evening at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 E. Main St., Lake Mills, and again one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial will take place at Scarville Synod Cemetery north of Scarville with military rites performed by Lake Mills American Legion Post No. 235.

Conrad O. Faugstad was born Sept. 20, 1924, in Winnebago County to Nils and Aasa (Stanghelle) Faugstad. He was baptized and confirmed at Scarville Evangelical Lutheran Church where he was an active, lifelong member. He attended Scarville Lutheran School, Bethany Lutheran High School in Mankato and graduated from Kiester High School in Kiester in 1944.

He served in the United States Army from 1945 to 1946 and was stationed in Hawaii.

On Sept. 21, 1952, he was united in marriage to Esther Petersen and they were blessed with seven children. They began their life together farming in Winnebago County. They later moved to rural Emmons where he became a district representative for Aid Association for Lutherans for 30 years and established many lifelong friendships with his clients.

He is survived by his loving wife, Esther; and seven children, Karin (Dan) Follmer, Palatine, Ill., Ruth (Laun) Sanderson, Plymouth, Kathleen (Karl) Bloedel, Lake Mills, Rhoda (Paul) Obermeyer, Wells, Rachel (Thomas) Hamlin, Minnetonka, Andrew (Debora) Faugstad, Northwood and A. Christine (Steven) Wold of Minneapolis. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, Douglas (Erin) Follmer, Rachel (Brandon) Rogers, Kirsten Follmer and fiance Rusty Planert, Kelly Sanderson and fiance Brian Bisesi, Jennifer Sanderson, Chad (Talia) Bloedel, Nicolas (Kelly Jo) Bloedel, Alexander (Larissa) Bloedel, Elizabeth (Matthew) Sulzle, Constance (Arthur) Langhorst, Kara Obermeyer (Corey Dornack), Michael (Heather) Obermeyer, Matthew Obermeyer, Luke Hamlin and Danielle Wold; and 13 great-grandchildren, Reagan, Katia, Isaiah, Anabelle, Charles, Noah, Christopher, Kaitlyn, Jacob, Joah, Makenna, Lane and Brielle. He is also survived by a sister, Signe Olson; a brother, Norman (Adela) Faugstad; as well as other brothers- and sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nils and Aasa; brothers, Nels (and wife, Camilla) and Arnold Faugstad; and other brothers-in-law.

Conrad had a great sense of humor and was known for his infectious laugh. He was a beloved father, grandfather and “Papa” to his great-grandchildren. He was a man of deep conviction and faith. Conrad was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by his wife of 60 years, family and friends.
