The Albert Lea boys’ golf team kept its perfect record intact Tuesday at Mankato Golf Club.

The Tigers took down Mankato East 319-328 to improve to 2-0 after defeating Rochester Century on Thursday.

“We’ve beaten two of our biggest concerns on our schedule,” said Albert Lea coach Riley Worth.

Against the Cougars, captain Lucas Peterson led Albert Lea by shooting a 77. Adam Syverson finished the course in 80 strokes, Alex Syverson in 81 and Brent Nafzger in 81.

Next, the Tigers play at 2 p.m. today at Shadowbrooke Golf Course in Lester Prairie in a tournament hosted by Mayer Lutheran.

Worth said the format of the tournament will be different.

In a normal high school golf tournament, six players compete from each team as individuals, and the top four individual scores add up to make the team score.

The format of today’s tournament is called best ball or four ball, Worth said. Two players will be paired to play as a team. Both players will compete on each hole, but only the top score between the teammates will be recorded.

Statistics are in the Scoreboard: April 22 post.
