Albert Lea swimmers set 6 pool records in Marion, Iowa

The record books continue to be re-written wherever the Albert Lea girls’ swimming team goes.

At the Linn-Mar Invitational on Saturday in Marion, Iowa, the Tigers set six pool records and one school record.

Anna Andersen and Lindsey Horejsi set two pool records each to go along with a pair of relay pool records.

In the 100-yard freestyle, Andersen set a pool and Albert Lea school record with a time of 52.23 seconds. She beat second-place finisher Jenn Jenks of Linn-Mar by 0.86 seconds.

Andersen also set the pool record in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.01 and was part of the 200 medley relay team with Horejsi, Ahnika Jensen and Emily Taylor that set the pool record with a time of 1:49.65.

The other relay team from Albert Lea that set a pool record consisted of Taylor, Jensen, Haley Simon and Horejsi. The group won the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:40.36.

Aside from being a part of both record-setting relays, Horejsi set pool records in the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke.

Horejsi edged Linn-Mar’s Kelsey Drake by 0.27 seconds to win the 200 individual medley. She had more of a cushion in the 100 breaststroke where she crushed the second-place finisher by 9.94 seconds.

With a score of 433, Albert Lea took third place out of six teams. Cedar Falls won with a score of 555, and Linn-Mar was second with 522.

Next, Albert Lea will host Mankato East at 6 p.m. Thursday.
