50 years ago: 1964

• Named to the Albert Lea Tribune 1964 Slowpitch All-League Team were the following: from the Albert Lea Federal team were Sharon Kazemba, first base; Dave English, third base; Dan Kruse, outfield; Jim Malepsy, rover; and Bill Danielson, catcher. From the Elbow Room were Jack Lehmann, outfield; Del Hovey, outfield; and Lonny Bachtle, pitcher. From Polly Meadows was Al Larson, second base. From Scotsman was Chuck Anderson, shortstop.

• The Office team defeated the Pork Pack 11-6 to win the Wilson Softball League playoff title. Don Drommerhausen led the Office with three hits, and Ray Tovar was the winning pitcher. Wayne Feuerhelm and John Stegenga had two hits each for the Pork Pack.

• The Alden High School football team defeated Janesville 35-13 and won its 18th straight game. Bob Hoeg scored three touchdowns for the Blackhawks.

 

25 years ago: 1989

• The Albert Lea volleyball team opened its season with a 3-1 victory over Southland by scores of 11-15, 15-2, 15-3 and 15-4. Albert Lea was led by Pam Stoltz with 14 ace hits, Jill Johnson with eight ace hits and Jenny Ortg with 13 assists.

• Quarterback Max Jeffrey threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Jon Cluppert, and Dave Arbogast kicked a 19-yard field goal to lead the Albert Lea football team to a season opening 9-6 win over Faribault. Chad Bohonek gained 103 yards on 19 carries for the Tigers.

• Dave Pilot of Albert Lea defeated Tim Duren of Austin 2-1 to win the 61st annual Shortstop Golf Tournament in Albert Lea.

 

10 years ago: 2004

• The Glenville-Emmons volleyball team defeated Houston 3-0 by scores of 25-16, 25-21 and 25-15 in its season opener. Kara Honsey was 15-for-15 serving with three aces, and Chelsey Ziebell was 14-for-16 serving with three aces.

• Kendra Olchefske and Leah Walters scored goals for the Albert Lea girls’ soccer team in its 2-0 victory over Mankato Loyola.
