Democrats are supporting a loser foreign policy deal

My Point of View by Brian Hensley

The Iran deal is just another example of the dangerous Clinton-Obama foreign policy. Knowing the facts surrounding the deal, those that represent Freeborn County at the national level including Sen. Al Franken, Sen. Amy Klobuchar and Rep. Tim Walz still support this dangerous deal. Their actions risk the safety and security of all Minnesotans.

“Many Minnesota Democrats are supporting the dangerous Clinton-Obama foreign policy that led to Benghazi, the failed Russian Reset and now this Iran deal,” said Chairman Keith Downey of the Republican Party of Minnesota. “Democrats’ negligence will allow Iran to get just what they want, a nuclear weapon. This deal will jeopardize the security and safety of Minnesotans just like prior Clinton-Obama foreign policy initiatives. We must stop this dangerous deal to prevent a nuclear Iran and protect Minnesotans.”

“Sen. Al Franken moved from ‘leaning’ to backing the Iran deal earlier this week to ‘supporting’ it … Democratic Reps. Betty McCollum, Keith Ellison and Tim Walz all say they support the deal. Republican Reps. Tom Emmer, John Kline and Erik Paulsen have signaled they will vote against it next month when Congress returns to Washington … Undecided are Democratic Reps. Collin Peterson and Rick Nolan.” — Allison Sherry, “Sen. Al Franken moves from ‘leaning towards’ to ‘support’ on Iran deal,” Star Tribune, Aug. 13.

A bipartisan organization reviewed the Iran deal and came to the conclusion that the deal falls short of the five minimum requirements.

“After a thorough review of the proposed nuclear agreement with Iran, including its annexes, we have come to the unfortunate conclusion that this deal does not achieve the minimum requirements necessary for an acceptable agreement.” — The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), “Negotiations With Iran,” July 28.

A recent poll from CBS News released on Aug. 4 shared, “Fifty-three percent of Americans say the agreement will be not very or not all effective in preventing Iran from developing a nuclear weapon, including more than three in four Republicans and half of independents.”

While we often focus on local issues and items that affect us on a daily basis, as we should, it’s important to note that we do have a say in national issues through our senators and representatives. It’s important that we not bury our heads in the local cornfields or our daily jobs and remember we are citizens of the world. This “deal” raises major concerns that on a national issue, President Obama, Sen. Franken, Sen. Klobuchar and Rep. Waltz are standing in support of a country that has backed terrorists, regularly chant for our demise and wish to wipe one of our strongest allies “off the face of the map.”

A nuclear Iran will lead to an arms race among Middle East countries. That situation is a loser for everyone. Where are the organizations that want fewer nuclear arms? Where are the peace supporters? The deal that has been negotiated by the Obama administration has been the most one-sided treaty ever negotiated by the United States. The biggest concern that many see are the limits placed on Congress and future administrations in dealing with Iran. The inability of the United States or the UN to trust and verify Iran’s actions makes it a loser for all citizens that want peace in the world.
