New homes dominate building report

Building permits for seven new residential units were predominate factors in the June report from the City of Albert Lea Inspection Department.

During June, a total of 73 building permits with a valuation of $2,351,094 were issued by the city. This increases the total valuation for city-issued building permits to $5,717,696 for the first six months of the year.

At the end of June 2009 the city’s report shows a total valuation for permits as $9,158,621.

Six of the new residential units are duplexes. One set is on Crystal Drive and two sets are on West Ninth Street. The seventh single family residential unit is on Tiger Ridge Drive.

A permit with a valuation of $448,000 has been issued to Lou-Rich Machine Tool Inc., 505 W. Front St., for paint line upgrade.

Another June permit with a valuation of $85,000 was issued to Security Insurance for remodeling of the former Movie Galley, 1606 E. Main St., into offices.

The Freeborn County Planning and Zoning Office issued 26 building permits with a listed valuation of $836,467. This increases the estimated valuation for county-issued permits to $2,422,490 for the first half of the year.

A June permit with a valuation of $369,383 has been issued to Mark Becker for a commercial building in Hayward.

During June, county permits were issued for a new home and four home additions and/or garages.
