Here are highlights in history for Aug. 11, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:

1985 — Myrtle Kvale, a sergeant in the U.S. Army’s Women’s Army Corps, was awarded a battle star for duty in Manila, Philippines, during World War II.

1975 — “The King of Hoboes” went through Albert Lea as a hitchhiker after attending the National Hobo Convention in Britt, Iowa.

1945 — Forrest L. Willey would be the new principal at Albert Lea High School, replacing Leonard Bloomquist.
