Peek at the Past

Here are highlights in history for Jan. 28, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:

1985 — An 8-foot by 18-foot mural entitled “The History of Freeborn County” by Lloyd Herfindahl was being prepared for display at the courthouse. (This mural is now above the stairway in the older part of the courthouse.)

1975 — A 14-member committee appointed by Mayor Paul Larimore would be considering ways to use the former Lea College Fieldhouse, which had been purchased by the city.

1965 — School District 241 Board of Education was looking over plans for the proposed junior high school on the city’s north side.
