Here are highlights in history for March 8, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:

1990 — State Rep. Bob Haukoos of District 31B was the co-sponsor of a bill to change the name of Helmer Myre State Park to Myre-Big Island State Park. (Note: This action resulted in the park’s present name.)

1980 — Albert Lea’s Pamida, located near the corner of U.S. Highway 65 and Margaretha Avenue, had a Tribune ad with nine coupons.

1960 — Lyle (Gus) Westrum was named to be the new golf professional and greenskeeper at the Albert Lea Country Club.
