Here are highlights in history for Aug. 14, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:

1986 — The Albert Lea Exchange Club presented the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award to Freeborn County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Terry Cochran.

1976 — One of the advertised events at the Steele County Free Fair in Owatonna on Aug. 18 & 19 would be harness races. Sixty horses and drivers from five states were entered in the races.

1966 — A bolt of lightning started a fire that did $200,000 estimated damages at Albert Lea’s Grace Lutheran Church.
