1989 — Leah Mattson and LaChelle Zeman, juniors at Albert Lea High School, were named to the Big Nine swim team.

1979 — A grand opening was being held for Albert Lea’s new Burger King restaurant and drive thru at 2011 E. Main St.

1939 — Thomas Chicos of Freeborn won first place in a corn husking contest when he husked 18.72 bushels in 80 minutes.
