Mary Jeane Jaspers, 85, Northwood, died Sunday, July 15, 2012, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A funeral service for Mary will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, 1000 First Ave. North, Northwood, with the Rev. Wendi Gillan officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 S. First Ave., Northwood. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to service time on Saturday at the church.
The family would like to suggest that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Northwood Rescue Unit in her memory.
Mary Jeane Jaspers was born on June 3, 1927, in Gordonsville, the daughter of Ross and Alice (Seuser) Herman. She attended school at District No. 50, Gordonsville, graduating from Northwood High School in 1944.
Mary was united in marriage to Lee C. Jaspers on June 10, 1945, and to this marriage eight children were born, Allen, Susan, Barbara, Jerry, Julie, Kim, Dan and Dennis. Lee preceded her in death on July 22, 1986. After her children were grown, Mary worked as a certified nursing assistant at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood until her husband’s death.
Mary enjoyed spending winters in Arizona with Harvey and Marjorie Reutzel and Ruby Helgeson. Mary also enjoyed reading poetry and loved to paint.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Allen (Katy) Jaspers of Northwood, Susan Gaskill of Northwood, Barbara Manson of Minneapolis, Jerry (Koralee) Jaspers of Shelbina, Mo., Julie Jaspers of Lawrenceville, Ga., Kim (Mike) Pearce of Lawrenceville, Ga., Dan (Susan) Jaspers of Rockford and Denny Jaspers of Northwood; 23 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; her sister, Bonnie Hengesteg of Northwood; sister-in-law, Leona Herman of Glenville; as well as many nieces, nephews and many extended family members and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Ross and Alice Herman; husband Lee; brothers: Merle and Verle Herman; and a grandson, Jed Gaskill.
