Myrtle E. Hagen was born Jan. 1, 1922, the daughter of Thomas and Hilda (Knudtson) Hagen, on the farm in Winnebago County, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at the Winnebago Lutheran Church. She attended school at Lake Mills, but later graduated from Scarville High School.
Myrtle lived on the farm with her brother Elvin all of her life. Occasionally she would assist in area homes where families celebrated the birth of a new baby. On the farm she helped with chicken chores, gardening and keeping dairy equipment clean. She liked to bake, especially bread, and to entertain relatives with Sunday dinners.
Her church was very important to her. She loved Bible studies and serving meals at church events for as long as she was able to.
She loved the activities at the nursing home. She attended Bible study, chapel services, rhythm band, balloon volleyball, baby and pet days.
Everyone will remember Myrtle for her gentle, quite manner and her sweet smile.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister-in-law, Marjorie; and her brothers, Kenneth and Elvin.
She is survived by many of her cousin’s families along with other relatives and friends.
