Man assaulted, robbed

A man suffered injuries after a robbery Friday evening at 604 Water St. in Albert Lea.

A van reportedly pulled up in front of a 20-year-old man as he was walking. A suspect reportedly punched him in the face and told him to give him all of his stuff. The suspect reportedly threatened the man and stole his phone, wallet, shoes and other items. There were reportedly three other passengers in the vehicle.

The man reportedly had redness and puffiness around his right eye socket and cheek bone area and was checked out by paramedics. The injuries were not life-threatening.

According to the Albert Lea Police Department, the man and the alleged suspect reportedly knew each other from previous encounters.

A charge sheet for the alleged suspect includes simple robbery, gross misdemeanor theft and fifth-degree assault.

 

Scam reported

A scam was reported at 4:44 p.m. Friday in Albert Lea. A restaurant reportedly received a call from someone who said Albert Lea Electric would shut the power off at 5 p.m. unless they paid $1,000 using a credit card. The restaurant was reportedly informed it had something to do with the transition from Alliant Energy to Freeborn-Mower Cooperative Services. The number given to call was searched online, and it was found to be a scam.

 

Tractor weights stolen

Front-end tractor weights were reported taken at 9:29 a.m. Friday from 70993 190th St., outside Albert Lea.

 

1 arrested for domestic assault

Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Shyler James Luecht on two counts of domestic assault at 8:21 p.m. Saturday at 203 Park St. in Freeborn.

 

1 arrested for DWI

Deputies arrested Trevor Lee Westerlund, 21, for driving while intoxicated at 2:38 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Interstate 35 and U.S. Highway 65. Westerlund was cited for fourth-degree driving while intoxicated, no proof of insurance and speeding.

In connection with the incident, Dakota Brendan Wangsness, 20, was cited for underage drinking and was released to his mother.
