Sally died Sunday, July 17, 2016, at Thorne Crest Senior Living Community after a brief struggle with cancer. Marcella (Sally) A. Kestner was born Feb. 27, 1923, in Sleepy Eye, the daughter of John and Anna (Haala) Soukup. She attended rural school in Sleepy Eye. On May 17, 1945, she was united in marriage to Joseph Kestner at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. The couple lived in Sleepy Eye for several years. The family moved to Albert Lea in 1957. Sally enjoyed sewing, gardening, bird watching and fishing with her family. But most of all — she enjoyed spending time with her family. She had a strong faith in God and was a member of St. Theodore Catholic Church, where she was a member of the guilds and the quilting club.
Survivors include daughter, Ann Kestner, of Minneapolis; sons Chuck (Cathy Renfro) Kestner of Belton, Missouri, Jim (Mary Lingen) Kestner of Backus and John (Lynn Varpness) Kestner of St. Paul; grandchildren Amy (Andy) Hageman and Michael (Kara) Kestner; great-grandsons Ryan and Joseph Hageman; sisters Anne Marie West of Denver, Colorado, and Ordell Krambeer of Sleepy Eye.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe; sister, Alice; and brothers Everett and Clifford.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Theodore Catholic Church.
