Virgil Bosma, 1933-2017

Funeral services for Virgil E. Bosma, 83, of Albert Lea will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. The Rev. Christopher Martin will officiate. Military honors will be accorded by local servicemen’s organizations. Interment will be at Olena Mound Cemetery in Buffalo Center, Iowa. Virgil Bosma

Virgil died Monday, April 3, 2017, at St. John’s Lutheran Community in Albert Lea. Virgil Edwin Bosma was born Dec. 24, 1933, in Hebron Township, Kossuth County, Iowa, the son of Edward and Elizabeth (Nerdig) Bosma. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. On April 26, 1956, Virgil married Vivian Johnson in Nashua, Iowa. The couple later divorced.

Virgil farmed his whole life in Buffalo Center and Emmons. He was a member of Emmons Lutheran Church,  the Emmons American Legion post and Albert Lea Eagles Club. Virgil loved fishing and spending time in retirement in Mission, Texas.

Virgil is survived by his children Douglas (Carol) Bosma of Emmons, Debra (Mark) Meuser of Albert Lea, David Bosma of Lake Mills and Denise (Daniel) Clark of Albert Lea; grandchildren Michael Bosma, Jonathan Bosma, Brittany Meuser, Megan Meuser, Jamison Clark, Tyler Clark, Braden Clark and Wyatt Clark; siblings Ruth Murra, Richard (Sharon) Bosma and Dennis (Bonnie) Bosma; and many nieces and nephews.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; nephew, Ronnie Bosma; and brother-in-law, Ray Murra.
