15 area wrestlers punch tickets to state

ROCHESTER — Seven wrestlers from Albert Lea qualified for the individual state tournament by earning first or second place at the Section 1AAA tournament on Saturday: Beau Johnsrud (second place, 106 pounds), Trevor Westerlund (first, 113), Garrett Wangsness (second, 120), Dakota Wangsness (first, 126), Lucas Hansen (first, 138), Triston Westerlund (first, 182) and Jacob Kunkel (second, 285).

In area news, five wrestlers from United South Central qualified for state by taking first or second place at the Section 2A tournament: Jacob Gonsalez (second, 120), Dylan Herman (second, 132), Derek Herman (first, 138), Colten Carlson (first, 182), and Logan Sonnek (second, 220).

Also at the Section 2A tournament, three wrestlers from New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva qualified for state: Cordell Peterson (second, 106), Dillon Kubiatowicz (second, 113), Wyatt Fitterer (second, 285).
