Tribune refuses to publish letter

Editor’s note: The Tribune typically publishes nearly all the letters it gets. However, last week I halted a lingering debate between two local men for reasons of decorum and to avoid ad hominem arguments. Both sides had sent letters unbeknownst to the other, but neither one was published. We continue to appreciate letters from all writers.

Every time I write a letter to the editor I expect to get blasted by some far right Republican and it always happens.

I usually end up defending my views, and I never get to express everything else I want to say because I keep getting blasted and I have to defend myself. I don’t mind this for I am a big boy, and I asked to be blasted in my letters because it keeps them from blasting President Barack Obama and then they are leaving him alone. You have read this many times in a lot of my letters.

On May 7, a first-time writer blasted my April 24 letter titled “Compassion is a Democratic trait.” Her letter was titled, “There is more to life than feeding ego.” I sent in a defense of my opinion on May 8.

The Tribune let me know they weren’t going to publish my letter on May 9. I wasn’t given a reason other than that they were cutting me off on this topic. I was very upset. I tried to negotiate a way to get my letter published but to no success. There wasn’t anything out of the ordinary in my letter that was way overboard.

All I can say if you are going to blast someone else you better be ready to get blasted back. So don’t dish it out if you can’t take it. I feel that it is my mission in life to try to educate those far-right Republicans. It is also my favorite sport.

Now if you would like a copy of my letter that was rejected, you can e-mail me at thrifty@charter.net and I will send you a copy. I plan on writing more letters for I have a lot of issues and views to discuss. I know I will be blasted by those far-right Republicans, but that’s all right. I’ll just file them in my scrapbook with the rest of them. It does wonders for my ego. I feel I should mention this again: I am an independent but very anti-far right.
