Bystander saves child from drowning at Albert Lea Y

A parent chaperone reportedly saved the life of a child found unresponsive under the water in a pool Monday at Albert Lea Family Y.
The boy was taken by Gold Cross Ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea for treatment and observation.

The chaperone, who was closest, jumped in to assist along with a student next to the child, according to the Albert Lea Family Y. The chaperone was able to remove the child from the water. CPR was then performed, and the child regained consciousness after one round of CPR.

Two of the chaperones in the pool were medical professionals.

A lifeguard was on the pool deck.

According to the city, the boy regained consciousness after one round of CPR.

At the time of the incident, the Y was hosting a swim party for a youth group.

Albert Lea firefighters, police officers and Gold Cross Ambulance were dispatched to the incident at about 9:30 a.m., according to the city.
