Albert Lea man pleads guilty to high-speed chase

An Albert Lea man who led officers on a 23-mile vehicle chase in May that reached 120 mph and ended in Lake Mills pleaded guilty Tuesday in Freeborn County District Court.

Michael Anthony Livingston, 31, pleaded guilty to fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle.

An Albert Lea officer was on patrol the afternoon of May 22 in the area of 11th Street and Viking Avenue when he recognized a vehicle from a domestic incident earlier in the day with Livingston inside. At the time, a probable cause arrest had been issued for him for felony domestic assault.

Livingston fled at a high rate of speed after an officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle in the area of Margaretha Avenue and 14th Street. The pursuit continued through southern Freeborn County and into Iowa.

The pursuit continued through Lake Mills, where Livingston crashed into a field and fled on foot. He was pursued and arrested a short distance away.

Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 21. Livingston is expected to receive a stayed sentence with a 90-day jail cap.

According to Winnebago District Court, Livingston pleaded guilty to aggravated misdemeanor eluding Aug. 3 in connection with the case. A plea hearing is scheduled for Oct. 24.

In a second file, Livingston pleaded guilty to misdemeanor domestic assault. Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 21.

He is expected to receive a stay of execution sentence with 365 days in jail stayed. Livingston will be expected to complete a pre-sentence investigation, follow recommendations and complete a domestic abuse class.

In a third file, Livingston is charged with second-degree burglary and third-degree criminal damage to property.

A settlement conference is scheduled for Nov. 8.
