The Lake Mills baseball team is two wins away from the state tournament after a 2-1 win Thursday at North Butler in the second round of the Class 1A District 4 tournament.

“It was an exciting ballgame with a lot of pressure situations that our defense and pitcher got out of,” Lake Mills head coach Jason Blaser said.

Taylor Throne went the distance on the mound for the Bulldogs. He allowed one earned run and no walks.

After North Butler took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, Paul Pins drove in Matt Throne for the tying run in the fourth inning, Blaser said.

A bunt by Christian Rank scored Pins for the winning run in the seventh inning.

In the District 4 final, Lake Mills will play at No. 1 Newman Catholic at 7 p.m. Saturday. The winner of that game will play the District 3 champ in the Substate 2 bracket.

Lake Mills and Newman Catholic split the regular-season series. The Bulldogs are on a three-game winning streak.
