The Lake Mills wrestling team took sixth place out of 11 teams Saturday at the North Butler invitational, according to a press release.

Of the 12 Bulldogs who competed, 10 placed in the top six of their weight classes.

“It was an up-and-down day for us,” said Lake Mills head coach Alex Brandenburg. “Some of our kids looked better than they have all year, but others seemed to struggle.”

Lake Mills placed three wrestlers in the finals, all at consecutive weights.

Noah Irons was the lone champion for the Bulldogs, pinning the sixth- and fourth-ranked wrestlers in the state. Junior Brady Schmidt and freshman Slade Sifuentes had semifinal wins, but both lost in the finals to ranked wrestlers. Andrew Olsen was the lone third-place finisher. He picked up a pin over a previously ranked wrestler in the third-place match.

“The tournament was really balanced team-wise, and our kids got some tough matches,” Brandenburg said. “It was nice to get some good competition as we head toward the conference tournament and sectionals.”
