Bulldogs fall seconds short

LAKE MILLS, Iowa — Carlie Christianson missed a game-tying 3-pointer with 3.7 seconds left Wednesday as the Garner-Hayfield Cardinals girls’ basketball team outscored the Lake Mills Bulldogs 14-5 in the fourth quarter and defeated the Bulldogs 45-41 in Lake Mills.
“We led the whole game until the fourth quarter,” Lake Mills coach Beth Van Roekel said. “We let them stay in the ball game and they scored 14 in the fourth quarter.”
Lake Mills would carry a 36-31 lead going into the fourth quarter.
The Cardinals shot 16 free throws in the fourth quarter and made 10 of them to help overcome the five point deficit and take the lead 2 minutes and two seconds to go in the game.
The Cardinals converted free throws in the last minute to help secure the 45-41 victory over Lake Mills.
Lindy Pins led the Bulldogs with 22 points, while Amanda Lampman had nine points.
Jasmine Doble led the Cardinals with 15 points, While Alicia Savoy had 12 points.
Liz Tusha also had 10 points for Garner-Hayfield.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Friday at Osage.
