L.M. wrestlers’ runs end at state

Two Lake Mills, Iowa, wrestlers’ runs in the state tournament ended on Friday at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa.

Sophomore Noah Irons lost in the 126-pound quarterfinals, and senior Calvin Beal was clipped in the second round of wrestlebacks.

Irons opened the tournament on Thursday by pinning Kyle Pegorick in 51 seconds. He lost a 13-2 major decision in the quarterfinals to top-ranked Tyler Shulista, of Alburnnet, Iowa, and then lost a 4-2 decision Kole Stapes in the second round of the wrestlebacks.

Beal lost in the opening round on Thursday to top-ranked and undefeated Robert Walker, before beating John Hageman, of Jackson Junction, Iowa, in the first round of wrestlebacks the same day.

Beal’s career ended in the second round of wrestlebacks when he lost 8-4 to Underwood’s Mike Novotny.
