LAKE MILLS — After posting five straight wins, the Lake Mills softball team’s streak snapped Wednesday at home.

Becca Hueberty of Newman Catholic pitched a no-hitter, and the Knights defeated the Bulldogs 8-0.

“Newman’s a good team, and they’ve got a strong pitcher,” said Lake Mills coach Matt Daniels. “Mentally, we have got to be a little more confident and make the plays that we can make.”

Before Wednesday’s game, Lake Mills was on an upswing. The Bulldogs were shut out in their first two games of the season, but they bounced back to win 10 of their next 12 games.

Emily Orban pitched for Lake Mills. She retired one batter and allowed nine hits and no walks.

The Bulldogs (11-4 overall) are third in the eight-team conference standings, and the Knights (13-2 overall) are second.

The teams will meet again at 7:30 p.m. July 3 at Mason City.

“The nice thing is that we get another shot at them in a couple of weeks,” Daniels said. “Hopefully, we’ll come back a little bit stronger and more aggressive at the plate.”

Next, Lake Mills will play at 6 p.m. Friday at Belmond-Klemme. The Bulldogs won the first meeting 6-0 on May 30.
